What is bullying?
Bullying is the act of continual abuse where one party tries to enforce it’s power over another. There are three types of bullying-physical, verbal, and relational (or social).
Physical bullying occurs when the bully uses physical power or violence to coerce, intimidate, or harm the victim.
Verbal bullying is when a person consistently uses words to intimidate or hurt another person.
Relational bullying has possibly the most serious long-term effects of the three types of bullying. This type of bullying occurs when one person or a group of people purposefully exclude another.
Bullying has always been present in UK schools, but until the late 1980s, although people were aware that it happened, it was not an issue of major public concern.
What are the Causes of Bullying.
Effects of Bullying
Bullying can affect everyone—those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying. Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, substance use, and suicide. It is important to talk to kids to determine whether bullying—or something else—is a concern.
The issue of bullying has gotten a lot of attention in recent years, but it is something that has always been around, and something some most likely still think is “one of those things/.” But being bullied can cause serious problems with self esteem, and has even been a contributing factor to suicide. But like many social problems, simply declaring that bullying must stop is not enough. It is important to ask ourselves, “What are the causes of bullying?” because it is only with this knowledge that we can ultimately reduce this behavior. What are the disadvantages of bullying?
